Description

"Other vampire stories are tame by comparison."

The only way to love a monster... is to become one yourself

Ashlyn's life changes forever one night in a New York City back alley. Just before dawn she stumbles across a grievously wounded vampire. Ashlyn overhears the attackers reveal they're trying to kill her because she's a futanari.

She makes the fateful decision to help the beautiful redhead. Ever since science made it possible, Ashlyn wanted to be a futa. They're despised and persecuted by society, so when she sees one in trouble, she feels compelled to help. Gathering up the wounded vampire in her arms, she hurries home to her nearby apartment, sparing the girl from being burned to ash by the rising sun.

Vampires need blood, and futanari vampires need sex… lots of sex. Ashlyn enters into a Master/submissive relationship with the beautiful but wounded vampire, Musette Vaillancourt, becoming her "pet." Ashlyn becomes a human predator, seducing victims and bringing them home for her injured lover to drink their blood.

But that's only the beginning. Ashlyn enters into a life beyond her wildest dreams. She gets what she's always wanted… and so much more. All sexual fantasies fulfilled. All secret, dark impulses acted upon. Nothing is forbidden to the immortal undead. The rules and laws of mortals don't matter to them. They are lions among the sheep.

But Musette's former vampire master finds out her pet is still alive. Ashlyn can barely contain her jealousy as they are reunited. The appearance of Musette's master brings a dangerous threat, however: the vampire coven Musette's master belongs to.

Ashlyn finds herself fighting both for her life and her love with Musette… and not everything may survive.

Review

What a ride! This book barrels through like a freight train from the first sentence to the last. The story is well-constructed, interesting, and fast-paced. It's also graphic and messy--so messy I couldn't read it while I ate. Bryce Calderwood has mastered the art of putting unrelated things together in a story, which I love, even when the subject isn't to my liking. I raced through the last third of the book because I couldn't wait to see where it was taking me.

Calderwood is a master storyteller. For all the messiness in the content, the story is tidy and all laced up in a tight package. The writing itself is slick. No fluffy language to distract from the action. Sentences that cut to the chase like Ashlyn's Damascus steel sword.

I highly recommend this excellent story.

Excerpt

“Was... was that enough? For tonight?” Ashlyn asked.

“He bled out faster than I could drink,” Musette breathed into her ear with the softest of voices.

“Oh, because I stabbed him in the neck. Sorry, I never killed anyone, before.”

“No? I would imagine not,” whispered Musette. “Tell me, Ashlyn, how did it make you feel?”

“I... I don’t know. Sick. Powerful. Turned on.”

Musette nodded. “You did very well, Ashlyn.” Musette stroked Ashlyn’s hair and the back of her neck with her bloodied hands, but Ashlyn didn’t care about the blood.

“You saved my life, Ashlyn. You still are saving it. Thank you.” Musette planted kisses on Ashlyn’s neck, and with each kiss, it was like lights inside her being turned on, illuminating her heart and its desires. She wrapped her arms around Musette’s back and shoulder. The smell of blood was sickeningly strong.

“I only saw that you were a futa, I didn’t realize until later that you were...something more.” Ashlyn sighed, those kisses were melting her. Musette kissed her earlobe and sucked on it gently. She put her lips to Ashlyn’s ear.

“Vampire...” she whispered.

“Yes...” said Ashlyn.

Musette licked her neck, giving her gooseflesh.

“I still thirst, Ashlyn,” she whispered, barely audibly, “I thirst for you.”

Ashlyn sighed and a quiet sob escaped her. Just one.

“I’m yours,” she said, “just... please don’t kill me.”

“And what if I do?” breathed Musette. Ashlyn pulled her head back to look Musette in the eye.

“Then make it good,” she said, and kissed her.

Superb storytelling. I'm not the best judge of the "steaminess factor" because the sex wasn't my style. Too messy for me. The X-factor in this story is the impeccable pacing and the thrilling story. Truly excellent.
